Chapter 15
Willy's POV (continued)
"I went to answer it when suddenly the door flew open by itself. A huge gust of wind blew through the room but I couldn't see anyone at the door. The wind was freezing and we all shivered. I grabbed the door and slammed it shut. I didn't want to look out in the hall for fear of what I'd find. We now knew why we had been sent here, evil was brewing and we had to be conscious of everything going on around us. We all had to be very vigilant and prepared for anything."
"We decided to go and beard the lion in his den so to speak. We had to search for the evil entity soon. We left the hotel by the back entrance and thankfully no fans were there yet so we got away clean. We split up into two groups (thank heaven for cell phones) and agreed to keep in constant touch. Sable and I were in one group and the other three were together in the other. We headed off into the afternoon sun. We had to hurry, there were only a few hours until show time and we still had to do sound check."
"Sable and I headed south to Bitsevsky Park. This was a large (10 km by 4 km [about 6 x 2.5 miles]) forested area with many ravines. During the day it's a park for people to picnic and play games in but at night all kinds of strange beings inhabit the area. We got to the edge of the forest and turned our flashlights on. Luckily, at the last minute, Sable had thought to bring them along. We gingerly walked along a dark and dismal path. All the trees seemed to be reaching for us and trying to encase us in their limbs. We swatted them away time and time again. It seemed as if everything in this forest were coming alive and trying to impede our progress."
I pause and have a great big gulp of water. I need to take my mind off the memory for a minute. I don't what to have to remember anymore. It's too hard and I just want to curl up into a ball and die. I approach the living room window and gaze out at nothing which is perfect because that's exactly what I want to think of, nothing. Alas, back to the past we must go.
"About the time that we seemed to be fighting off every denizen of the forest, we heard shouts from our left. We hurried as fast as we could without killing ourselves and over the next rise we saw the other three stalwart youths coming toward us. I was never more happy to see anyone in my life and I'm sure Sable felt the same way. They say there's safety in numbers and we were just about to put that to the test. As we approached the middle of this overgrown tangle of festering flora and fauna we heard a sound like nothing I'd heard before. It was a cross between a howling mountain lion, a crashing wave and a screaming Tokio Hotel fan. It was horrid and I knew I'd heard it before. Many, many times. This was just the latest in a long line of meetings we'd had in the past. Of course 'It' has gone by many names over the centuries ( Baal - Christian demonology; Banshee - Irish; Furies - Roman; Gaki - Japanese, Wendigo - Native American, and too many more to mention). There has been a Queen of Demons who went by the name of Lilith."
I paused for another drink of water and a few deep breaths. I then continued the story.
"These demons had supernatural powers and they could levitate, possess, seduce and provocate. They want to harass, demoralize, confuse and disorient us. They say these demons can only be nullified by God but as we know there is no such thing, we have to find other ways to get rid of them. One of our ritual weapons is called an athame. It's a black handled knife that we use to aid us in cleansing the earth of evil spirits. I have used my own many times and expect to have to use it many more. We have all had to bear arms against these demons and many of us have the deep scars, both physical and emotional, to prove it. I myself have this," I say as I raise the back of my shirt to show Aron the long red puckered claw-like marks going from my left shoulder blade to my right hip bone. "It's okay, it looks worse than it feels. It sure was a bitch when it happened though." I say as I pull my shirt down and continue with the history lesson.
"Back to the forest and the horrible screeching sound we had heard. We pinpointed the noise as coming from a nearby copse and we crept in that direction as noiselessly as we could. All of a sudden Sable tripped and the demon was on us in seconds. We wrestled it to the ground, but even with four of us pouncing upon it, it threw us off like we were a piece of newspaper that had blown in on a breeze. I, being the brave fellow I believed myself to be, immediately got up off the ground and flung myself at it, I think I'll call it Darcy from now on in the story. So remember, the demon's name is Darcy. Stop your snickering and listen up."
"Anyway, to make a long story short this demon carved these ruts in my back and no one knew if I was going to live or die for six weeks. Needless to say the concert was cancelled and we never played another concert again."
"How do you feel now Aron?"
Aron's POV
My mind is whirling in a thousand different directions at once. I can't seem to grasp what Willy's been saying. Everything seems to be a blur and I can't seem to see clearly. It's all getting so dark and I'm so cold and dizzy. My head is going in spirals and I am spinning out of control. I'm falling down a long tunnel. It just keeps going and going and I keep falling and falling with no end in sight. Where is the bottom and why am I screaming when there's no one to hear me? I just keep spinning and spinning and spinning......
