Do You Believe In Magic? - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Willy's POV

Everything is packed and put away. Once Sable has added all her clothes and extras we'll leave. I don't care what she says or how she complains, we have to go now. "Sable, wake up kiddo. I need to talk to you."

Sable's POV

I hear Willy and tell him to come in. I have to talk to him too.

Willy's POV

I open the door and Sable is still laying in bed. She looks just like her mother did at that age. The long blonde hair all tousled laying on the pillow, the violet eyes and the shy smile. The only thing wrong with this picture was the haunted look behind the smile. "Okay Sable, I want you to listen to me for a minute. I want to go up to your folks place in the mountains. I need a break and so do you."

Sable's POV

"How did you know what I was going to say? Have you suddenly found that one of your undiscovered powers is mindreading? I was going to suggest the same thing. I really want to get away too? Let's get everything packed in the truck and take off."

Willy's POV

"Done milady. All you need to do is pack your suitcase and other essentials. I put everything in the truck last night." I patted her on the back. "Hurry up, I want to get going soon." I've never seen anyone jump out of bed so fast and with such a big grin on their face. I'm glad she was happy and I wouldn't have to kidnap her. I left her room and went down to the kitchen to pack a lunch. It would be quite awhile before we reached our destination and so I packed water and sodas as well. The ice chest should keep everything cold for a few hours, at least until we reached our destination. I yelled out, "I'll be waiting outside by the truck." I heard her say, "Okay, I won't be long."

Sable's POV

I reach into the closet and pull out a black suitcase and my overnight bag. I stuff shampoo, toothpaste, face cream, anything I can think of from the bathroom. I head into the bedroom and open drawers in the dresser. I throw everything but the kitchen sink into that suitcase. I close the bag, grab the overnite case and head for the door. I slowly turn and take one last look around. There were a lot of good times had here and I just want to take a second to say goodbye.

I turn and head for the stairs. As I descend to the first floor, I feel like I'm being followed. I shoot a quick look behind me, there is nothing there. I run the rest of the way downstairs. I race for the front door just as it swings open. Willy, sometimes I want to choke him, but other times, like this, I want to kiss him. Instead I just throw my suitcase in his direction and push him back out the door. As we head toward the truck, I hear a sound like a long sigh echoing in my ears. I hadn't heard the last of this place.

Willy's POV

The old place looks the same, the paint looks a bit worn on the outside, but otherwise nothing's changed. Good thing they have caretakers who look after the place otherwise it would be so overgrown with weeds. The house is bigger than it looks. It has four bedrooms, a living room, big kitchen, three bathrooms and a hot tub out back. We grab our bags and head inside. It's the first time we've visited since before Rom died. I think the last time we were here was for Sable's birthday last year. Good memories of this place, good memories of Rom. Maybe here I can figure out what my next step will be, I need to find a way to get my powers back, so I can help Sable in her quest.

We take our bags out of the trunk and start to walk towards the door. Already, I can see the light starting to shine in Sable's eyes. I can feel her starting to relax. As we enter the house, I smell Rom's cologne but that's impossible. The house has been shut up for over a year so how can it carry Rom's scent? I start up the stairs with our heavy bags and Sable brings up the rear with the smaller ones. She heads for her room, the one in the attic. She throws open the two windows and lets the breeze flow through. There is something to be said for fresh mountain air, it seems to rejuvenate people. I put her suitcase down and head for my own room on the second floor. I open the windows in my room and then we are heading into each room and throwing open all the windows. It is a beautiful day and we want to enjoy it while it lasts. We go into the back yard and just smell the air and enjoy the sights and sounds of the mountain. It's a good thing I remembered to have the electricity connected yesterday. We head back into the kitchen and start putting away the groceries. We have enough supplies to last us two weeks, hopefully that will give Sable enough time to rest and me enough time to come up with a workable plan.
