Reversal

Do you ever want to break free from your invisible chain?
Do you ever feel like packing it in and calling it a day?
Have you ever wanted to just throw in the towel
And walked away or has it all been worthwhile?

Do you miss any of the little things we all take for granted?
Do you wish that things were simpler and not quite so slanted?
Do you feel as if you have to live a sheltered existence
And hide away behind your door and six foot tall fence?

Do you want a life more stable or maybe less intrusive
Or are you content to be thought of as reclusive?
World Behind My Wall seems very personal and deep
Is this truly how you feel or just the thoughts you keep?

You walk around with bodyguards worn like a suit of armour,
But lonesome, though among a crowd, you always see the humour,
Of crying fans hysterical, of fakes, and paparazzi.
Of times spent trying to be yourself, just trying hard to be.

Your hordes of fans, they reach and grab and claw you
And try to make you look at them as if it's something new
They try to get your autograph, your picture, your attention
And hope that next they see you you'll remember their reaction.

If there was some way that I could make it all feel right
And make the feelings of isolation slip into the night
I would provide you with a protective cloak
To softly enwrap you with a cloud of smoke.

Then you could watch the world as it watches you
And point and stare and gape and photograph too
I wonder how we would feel if that happened to us
I wonder how we would react would we start to cuss?

I know you love your fans and they all love you
But sometimes you sound so sad and blue
I know that your life doesn't seem sublime
But cherish your dreams of a more peaceful time.
