Chapter 7
I grab a bowl from the dish drainer and quickly fill it with warm water and head back upstairs. On the way, I stop at the linen cupboard and grab some clean towels. I hurry back to the bathroom and find Aron almost passed out on the floor. I drop the kit and towels and put the bowl of water on the dresser. I gently help lift him up and lead him to the bedroom where I settle him on the bed. He is so cold and clammy. I worry that he's going into shock. I lightly place the blanket over his
shoulders and leave his left arm free.
I dip a towel in the water and gingerly start to wash the blood from his forearm. He winces but doesn't make a sound. After I've cleaned all the blood away, I get a really good look at the marks. They look like they were made by a wild animal, but I don't know any animal that would leave puncture wounds like this, long and pretty deep. I put ointment all over his arm and finish off by covering the whole area with gauze, I tape it securely in place.
Aron is looking at me and his eyes are starting to glaze over. I hope he isn't going to pass out on me. I have to find out what happened to him.
"Aron, stay with me Buddy. I need you to look at me and tell me what happened."
"I don't know. I thought I was having a dream but when I came to I found these marks on my arm. It can't have really happened can it?"
I didn't know what to tell him. I knew that it could happen but I wasn't sure whether to tell him what I thought it was. Everything was occurring so fast and I needed to find out what part Aron played in all this?
"Have you any idea what it was that attacked you?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try me," I said, "I've heard a few wild stories in my day."
So Aron proceeded to relate to me what he thought had happened to him. It was as I thought. The Evil One is coming and he has started with this man. I don't know what part Aron plays in the prophecy but he may be the one to save Sable.
"Okay, we know it couldn't be a dream," I said, "If it was, there wouldn't be any cuts on your arm. So, we have to figure this out. I have some thoughts about what happened but I don't know whether you would believe me or not."
"Willy, I'm about to believe anything you tell me. I realize you don't know anything about me but this creature was real, I know it was. I'm not sure how I know, but I do. From the time I was small, strange things have happened to me. The latest thing, besides this, was my parents' deaths. I was accused of murdering them because the fire that killed them was found to be arson. The only thing that cleared me was the fact that I wasn't in town that day. After they cleared me of any suspicion, I came here to get away from all the publicity. I have to find out why these things are going on and what I can do about it. I need to find out why my parents had to die."
I looked at him and spoke, "I have to tell you that Sable is very 'special', she can do and see things that most people can't. I can't tell you the whole story but suffice it to say that if anything bad happens to her, the whole world will suffer. It's something she has lived with for many years, longer than you could even imagine. She also
thinks that she has the power to kill people that she loves. The few people she has allowed herself to get close to have all died in some horrible way. I know it's not Sable's fault that these things came to pass but I can't convince her of that. It looks like you may be part of her future, so you and I have to come up with a plan that will work. I don't know if she will approve or not but I want you to pack some things and come stay with us. There is safety in numbers and I think we could
help each other."
He looked at me like I was crazy but then he thought about what I said. "I'll do it. Let me put some things together to take with me and we can go right away."
As he left the room, I wondered if I was doing the right thing. Well it was too late now it would have to work out. Hopefully, Aron can help and not hinder us along this path we must tread. I know Sable will try to convince him that she doesn't need any help, but with two of us, she will have to accept the assistance we can provide. She just can't do it all on her own...she just can't.
