Chapter 8
Sable's POV
Wow, I can't believe been asleep for four hours. I guess I must have needed it. Time to get up and figure out what to make for supper. Dusk is starting to set in and I wonder where Willy is and if he'll be home soon. I can't plan supper if I don't know when to expect him. Men...you'd think they would use the few brains the Goddess gave them! They can't say how long they'll be gone or where they're going or who they're going with. It's not like women ask much of them, just a little consideration is all. Never mind, don't get me started. Oh, that sounds like him now. No, I hear two voices, who's he dragged home now? Has he found another orphan? Boy, if it isn't a dog or a cat, it's some poor person he found in his travels.
Willy POV
"Sable, I'm home and I've brought company. Come on in Aron," I said as I held the door open wider. I didn't realize I had been gone so long, the sun is already starting to set and I was starved. But first I need to check on Aron's wounds, don't want infection to set in. "Aron, there's a bathroom just down the hall there on your left and we'll check that arm of yours. Sable, is the first-aid kit still in there?"
"Yes, in the bottom cupboard on the left." I hope he heard me because he's already in the bathroom. Moves fast that one? Now, why does he have Aron here and why is he carrying a bag which looks suspiciously like a suitcase. Somebody is going to give me some answers and real soon.
"Great thanks Sable. Ah, here it is. Okay Aron off with the shirt and lay your arm on the counter. Just a sec, let's put this towel down so it's not so hard. This might hurt a bit, it looks like some of the gauze is sticking. Let me dampen this towel and we'll lay it on top for a minute. The moisture will make it easier to get the gauze off and then it won't hurt so much. Is that a little better? Does it still hurt? Should I be more gentle? Hey, don't swear, take it like a man. I guess it doesn't help a lot, with that remark. OOWW! What was that for? Why'd you hit me in the arm, to prove your other arm works?"
Aron's POV
He is starting to piss me off. If he keeps talking to me like he's my nurse and I'm his patient, I'm going to hit him with my good arm. Oh, screw it, I'm gonna hit him anyway. "You idiot, I'm not an invalid you know, treat me with a little respect and don't talk down to me."
Willy's POV
"Fine, sorry. I'll be on my best behaviour from now on. Next time, you can bandage yourself up which I would love to see." Ungrateful jerk. I should just let him suffer and do it one-handed by himself. Then he might appreciate the help I've given him. "Aron, do you want me to finish this or not?"
"Yes please. You know we need to be on the same side if we're going to keep Sable safe and stay safe ourselves. How are you going to explain me to her?"
"I'm going to try something new. I'm going to tell her the truth, all of it. Listen carefully you might learn something yourself. There, that ought to do it. Your arm is looking a lot better, not so red and it's not oozing anymore. How does it feel?"
"Not bad, it's feeling a little numb but there's not much pain anymore. Thanks."
"No problem, let's go join Sable for lunch and the inquisition."
Sable's POV
Here they come and somebody better have an explanation for what's going on. Willy looks kind of sheepish and Aron won't look at me. "Okay, spill, what's up?"
"Aron needs a place to stay for a few days so I offered him a room here. Now I'm going to tell you what's going on but you need to promise you won't go ballistic on me."
Wow, I can't believe that Aron lived through all that. Poor guy! I really don't need any more protectors but if it helps Aron to stay here then so be it.
"That's awful Aron and you are most welcome to stay here for as long as you want. But just know that I don't need any help from anyone. I can handle my own life my own way. That doesn't mean that I won't need you to help with dishes and other stuff around the house, I just don't need you to protect me. Okay?"
"No problem, you won't even know I'm here and I'll definitely help with everything."
